Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Second Dose – Years 9, 10 and 11

On the 27th April, the school nursing team will be administering the second dose of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) immunisation to all pupils in Years 9 and 10. They will also vaccinate girls in Year 11 and above, who have not had their second dose of the vaccination. The School Immunisation team have reassured us that there is no need to fill in a new consent form for this, as you would have already done so previously. If you have any queries about consent, you can clarify this with the team on the details below.

The vaccine helps to protect a person from being infected by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). This virus increases the risk of developing some cancers later in life, such as cervical cancers, some mouth and throat cancers and some cancers of the genital area. Information about the virus and immunisation programme can be found here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/human-papilloma-virus-hpv/

Please see the below information from the School Nursing Immunisation Team.

You must inform the School Nursing Immunisation Team on the contact details provided below, if any of the following apply:

  • If your child has received their second dose of the HPV vaccine at the GP practice or another health setting;
  • If your child has received their first vaccination at the GP practice, or another health setting, and you would like your child to receive the second dose in school as we will need to obtain your consent;
  • If your child has not had the first dose of the HPV vaccinate and you would now like them to receive the vaccine. First doses will be offered later in the year and you will be given opportunity to consent at this point. Year 8 pupils will also be offered the first dose of the HPV course at this time.
