Lateral Flow Device (LFD) testing

Introduction

The Welsh Government has recently announced that it will start a programme of asymptomatic COVID-19 testing in education settings across Wales.

All of the school’s usual protective measures remain in place. These include zones within the building to preserve contact groups, enhanced cleaning and the ‘Hands, Face, Space’ approach. Face coverings are also now to be worn inside the building.

Up to one in three people who have COVID-19 have the virus without symptoms so could be transmitting the virus unknowingly. Lateral Flow Device (LFD) tests have been widely and successfully used to detect COVID-19 in asymptomatic individuals. The speed and convenience of LFD tests supports detection of the virus in asymptomatic individuals who would not otherwise be tested. They are clinically approved and are crucial in the fight against the virus.

From the week commencing 15th March 2021, the school will provide LFD tests to every child in Years10, 11, 12 and 13. These tests should be completed at home, twice every week.
