September Reopening Plans

Welcome back #TeamTeilo!

St Teilo’s is pleased to publish its full school reopening plans for September 2020. Parents and carers are strongly encouraged to read the report here:

COVID-Secure Strategy – Issue 1 – September 2020

Frequently asked questions

When does my child return to school?

Lessons for all students will begin on 14 September 2020 with one additional induction day as follows:

  • Year 7 – 4 September 2020
  • Year 8 – 7 September 2020
  • Year 9 – 8 September 2020
  • Year 10 – 9 September 2020
  • Year 11 – 10 September 2020
  • Years 12 and 13 – 11 September 2020

School transport will be operational throughout this period and students will be supported in using school buses safely and sensibly as part of their induction. Induction days run from 8.40am until 3.00pm as usual.

Will uniform be required?

Yes. Uniform will be worn as usual and should continue to be washed regularly.

Will school buses be running?

Yes. Buses will run as usual from 4 September 2020 onward. Cardiff Council have written to the parents and carers of all children who should be travelling on the bus with advice about the new health and safety measures required. If you have queries about school buses, you should contact Cardiff Council’s school transport team.

Will there be catering on site?

No. There will be no catering for the foreseeable future. It is essential that all children attend school with a packed lunch and plenty of drinking water. This also means that every child must have a school bag. Parents and carers of children who normally receive free school meals will continue to receive direct payments or supermarket vouchers from Cardiff Council.

What equipment will my child need?

The school will provide every child with:

  • A4 presentation ring binder (displaying their timetable)
  • Plastic wallet
  • Zip wallet
  • Mini-whiteboard, dry wipe markers and eraser
  • A pen, pencil, ruler and rubber
  • Green highlighter and pen (for assessment purposes)

This equipment is for use by each individual, without the need to share. It is essential that all students have a school bag in which to keep their equipment. Teachers will provide paper for students to work on and file so there will be no requirement for students to transport books to and from school. Students may choose to supplement their equipment pack with their own stationery.

Do children have to wear face masks in school?

Children are encouraged to wear face coverings in busy spaces (such as corridors) in the school. They are not required to wear masks in lessons but any child who feels more confident in a face mask will be permitted to wear it. Children will be remaining within contact groups, minimising the risk of transmission of COVID-19 by reducing contacts.

Will my child be able to wash their hands throughout the day?

Yes. There are now two 40-minute break periods and a toilet and sink block dedicated to each zone of the building. In addition, there are hand sanitiser stations at key locations. Children are encouraged to keep their own supply of hand sanitiser and soap in their school bag.

Are parents and carers allowed to visit the school site?

By appointment only. Visitors to the school without an appointment will not be permitted entry. However, the foyer intercom will be in operation (should a parent need to drop off a forgotten packed lunch, for example). It is important that parents and carers do not attend the school site with the aim of seeing a member of staff unless they have first secured an appointment.

Where can I find more information?

The COVID-Secure Strategy sets out all relevant information in respect of the school’s full reopening. Parents and carers are urged to read this document in full. You may also wish to revisit the Headteacher’s letter from 17 July 2020 by clicking here.
