Our context
St Teilo’s Church in Wales High School is a mixed 11 to 18 comprehensive voluntary-aided school with approximately 1,450 pupils on roll. The Sixth Form consists of approximately 200 pupils. We are a truly comprehensive school – and proud of it! Approximately 35% of pupils are entitled to free school meals, which is above the national average of 17%. Around 650 pupils live in the 20% most deprived areas of Wales. The pupils entering the school represent the full range of ability. Around 20% have a special educational need with 4.2% of pupils in receipt of an Individual Development Plan. This figure is higher than the national average of 2.5% for Wales as a whole. Around one in six pupils come from minority ethnic backgrounds and a similar proportion of pupils receive support to learn English as an additional language. Just over 3% of pupils are looked after by their local authority, one of the highest figures in the UK.
