St Teilo's Day (Culture and Heritage Festival)
From the Headteacher
Our patronal festival takes place on 7 February 2025 with the theme 'Identity'. In lessons, students will celebrate those aspects of our identity that make us unique, whilst rejoicing in those things which unite us in our humanity.
On Friday, children are permitted to wear clothing to school that speaks to their sense of identity. This might be religious or cultural clothing, traditional or tribal clothing, or indeed a Welsh rugby jersey or Cardiff City shirt! Otherwise, children may choose to wear school uniform as normal.
There will be an international menu in the dining hall with lunch meals including:
- Indian chicken biryani with poppadum, yoghurt salad and pickle
- Somalian egg shakshuka with pitta bread and salad
- Ethiopian tibs with Injera
- Thai tamarind chicken with fried rice.
- And a selection of Mediterranean meals with hummus and chickpea salad.
As always, allergen information will be available from the chef.
A photographer will be available during breaks to take individual or friendship photos of young people in their finery!
International sweet treats will be delivered to lessons so that people can experience new flavours and textures. Caution will be required for those with allergies as cross-contamination is possible on these platters. Advice should be sought from Mrs Williams or Mrs Payne at that time, if required.
The day will end with a quiz in Form Groups.
Oftentimes, students like to bring in cultural items or instruments to 'show and tell'. This is welcomed! However, we would ask that families refrain from providing any food due to the health and safety risks associated with this.
These arrangements apply to Years 7-11 only. Years 12 and 13 will enjoy a spiritual retreat to Newport Cathedral on Friday.
Teach us Lord, to heal and not to injure; to cherish people and not to harm them. Nurture within us the gifts you have planted so that we might be the person you are calling us to be. In Jesus' name. Amen
