Welcome to #TeamTeilo!

If this is your first child to transition to St Teilo's, you are most welcome! If we know you already - welcome back! We hope that this page provides all the information you need about transition to high school.

Look on every exit as being an entrance somewhere else.

Transition broadcast

The Headteacher, Mr Loynd, will introduce you St Teilo's in a broadcast at 6pm on Monday 24 June 2024. During the broadcast, the Headteacher will tell you all about the school and its mission. You can submit any questions you may have and Mr Loynd will answer them live! This is a great activity for families to undertake together. You can access the broadcast here on your phone, tablet or computer.

Transition days

We would like to invite your child to visit us on Wednesday 26 June 2024 and Thursday 27 June 2024 from 8.40am until 3.00pm.

During their visits, your child will meet key staff and enjoy a variety of sample lessons. We will assess every child's literacy so that we can be sure to provide support straight away if needed. These popular days always help to provide reassurance and get kids excited!

Your child will need a packed lunch and some drinking water on these days.

Staff will meet you at the front of the school site so you needn't worry about finding the way in!

Parent 'drop-ins'

Following the transition days, parents and carers are welcome to drop in and see us. Senior staff will be available from 3.30pm until 5.30pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024 and Thursday 27 June 2024. No appointment is required - simply come and see us if you'd like to chat or ask any questions.

You will be ordering school uniform during these transition days (with payment upon collection in September) so this is also a good opportunity to have your child try on clothing for size if needed.

Induction day

The first day for the new Year 7 will be Wednesday 4 September 2024. Year 7 attend alone on this day making the experience of school transport and finding their way around the building a little less worrying.

Children need to arrive at school by 8.30am ready to begin at 8.40am.

Transitions in life can offer opportunities for discovery.

To do: The parent/carer questionnaire

We wish to get to know you and your child before September. The easiest way to tell us all about your family is to complete the parent/carer questionnaire. Some questions are a little sensitive however you are not obliged to answer them. We would encourage you to share as much information as possible so that we can plan support for your child in advance. You can access the questionnaire here.

To do: Pupil information form

Your child will be given a pupil information form in hard copy on the first transition day. Please complete every section of the form and return it to us on the second transition day. It is important to tick all the necessary consents.

To do: Uniform order

St Teilo's has a new - and quite unique - approach to school uniform. Families have a great deal of choice about what they buy and where from within a 'brand'. Your child will be given an order form in hard copy on the first transition day. Please complete your uniform order and return it to us on the second transition day. You do not need to pay for any uniform until you collect it from us in September. All instructions are provided on the form.

Sometimes, God brings times of transition to create transformation.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have collated the answers to a number of frequently asked questions below.

There will be an induction day exclusively for Year 7 on Wednesday 4 September 2024 beginning at 8.40am. Your child will need to arrive on site by 8.30am. School commences for all other children the following day.

The school day comprises five lessons, two breaks and a period of collective worship. There is no morning registration so prompt arrival is essential. School finishes at 3.00pm.

Year 7 have access to their own zone and picnic site during breaks. This means that all play takes place in a safe area reserved especially for them.

We operate a graduated response to match provision with pupil need. Our practice is highly person-centred, meaning we avoid a 'one size fits all' approach. Our wellbeing and inclusion teams oversee a range of interventions, direct work, therapies and nurture provision.

Pupils will require the usual classroom equipment: a simple pencil case with pens, pencils, ruler and rubber. A scientific calculator for mathematics would be useful, although not essential. Pupils should have a school bag to house their equipment, books and water bottle.

School transport will run from Wednesday 4 September 2024. To find out more about transport and you child's eligibility for travel, please contact the council's school transport team.

Cycling to school is strongly encouraged. There is a large bicycle store, monitored by CCTV, and your child will require a strong bike lock. Advice on safe cycling or walking routes can be provided by the council.

The school has a popular dining hall with a tasty, balanced menu. We are a cashless school and you will require a ParentPay account before your child can access school meals. You will be given an activation code in September (so a packed lunch will be needed until you are set up and the account is charged).

There are eight teaching groups in Year 7 of around 30 pupils in size. Each is carefully designed to provide a balance of gender, ability and need. We will try to ensure that your child knows somebody in the class however we cannot promise to keep existing friendship groups together. Transition to secondary school is an opportunity to make a large number of new friends and lessons are designed to focus on learning and progress. At break time, children can play with whomever they wish in Year 7.
