Letter from the Headteacher (2024-25) 7

Success mindsets

It has been, as ever, a joy to celebrate examination results with Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 this summer. The children of St Teilo's have done well again, with performance remaining significantly above modelled expectations. Most importantly, I know that those young people leaving our school are entering the world as kind, wise and ethical people - people who will make a difference for the better. For that, I give thanks!

We now look forward to a new academic year and the mantle of responsibility hands to the upcoming year groups. Success is, I think, a matter of mindset; if you believe you can, you will. It is my prayer that every child aspires to achieve to the best of their ability and that, together, we commit to becoming everything that God is calling us to be.

If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.

Quick guide

I am pleased to have published a 'quick guide' to support parents and carers in ensuring that children are ready to learn. Schools are complicated organisations and keeping on top of everything that is required of you can be difficult! It is my hope that the checklists and frequently asked questions provided help everybody to ensure that basic standards are met. You can read more here.

School uniform

I am eager that school uniform continues to become a source of comfort and belonging at St Teilo's. A sensible school uniform policy benefits children in many ways, including:

  • Providing a sense of community and cohesion within the school
  • Supporting good discipline and engagement
  • Taking away the pressure of wearing fashion brands
  • Enabling pupils of all backgrounds to share in a common identity
  • Helping to reduce inequalities between pupils and prevent bullying
  • Assisting in identifying strangers on school premises and keeps children safe

There are some important updates about school uniform costs which can be found here. I would also encourage you to check your eligibility for the School Essentials Grant of £125 to £200 per child here.

Please do ensure that your child is compliant with our policy, which we hope is generous. In particular, I expect children's shoes to be entirely black.

School meals

Like the School Essentials Grant, the Free School Meal Grant is available for families. Please check your eligibility here. St Teilo's and Chartwells continue to work in partnership to deliver nutritious, tasty meals to children with the shared aim of inspiring healthy, sustainable behaviours that last a lifetime.

You can find out more about improvements to our menu here. There have also been some marginal price increases to which I wish to draw your attention.

Planning ahead...

I encourage families to begin planning for the forthcoming academic year now. You will find all important dates here and, as always, updates are posted here.

Importantly, you must not book holidays or travel in the months between September and May. Such absences will not be authorised and may incur a Fixed Penalty Notice.

Please do mark the dates for parent meetings and examinations in your diary and, if you've any questions, reach out to me here.

Further information

I will write to you again at the beginning of the academic year. Senior staff are available in the meantime should you need assistance.

As ever,

Canon I Loynd, Headteacher
