Letter from the Headteacher (2025-26) 3

Do this in remembrance of me

We begin our next half term with a degree of solemnity; we are entering a period of remembrance. This month of 'All Souls' is a particular time where we recall those who have gone before us from this life. Soon, too, we will commemorate the fallen in an act of remembrance on 11 November during morning worship.

Remembering is such an important part of our life together as a community. Our individual memories are frail but, together, we keep alive the wisdom, example and inspiration of those who have journeyed before us. And in remembering collectively, we commit ourselves daily to the common cause of peace in our world today.

Even when we forget, God knows and remembers each and every act of love and sacrifice, both then and now. God's promise is always to remember: "See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands" (Isaiah 49:16). God’s assurance of remembrance is our source of hope, peace and joy.

...and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Flu vaccine

We want children to stay well during the winter months, especially from the more aggressive flu virus. The NHS provides vaccines to children in Years 7-11 free of charge each year. The School Nursing Team will visit St Teilo's on 1 December 2025. If you wish your child to receive the vaccine, please ensure you provide your consent here. The deadline for consent is 24 November 2025.

SHRN Student Health and Wellbeing Survey 2025

The School Health Research Network (SHRN) is led by Cardiff University in partnership with the Welsh Government and Public Health Wales. Every two years, learners attending secondary schools in the Network are invited to take part in the SHRN Student Health and Wellbeing Survey. The information collected in the survey is used to compile a bespoke report for each school, which supports their work to improve their learners’ health and well-being. Importantly, no individual learner can ever be identified within this report as only aggregate data is shared. You can read all about the survey and your child's involvement in it here.

Parent Governor election

There is currently one vacancy for parent governor on the Governing Body of St Teilo's Church in Wales High School. Two parents responded to our invitation in September and are now eligible for election. You will find candidate statements and the link to vote here. To vote, you must use the unique code which will be provided in hard copy to your child in school this week.

Enrichment curriculum

We wish to encourage students to engage in as many enriching experiences beyond the classroom as possible. You can read all about the current clubs and activities here.

ParentPay accounts

A reminder to parents and carers to ensure that you maintain a healthy balance on your child's ParentPay account. Each day, too many students are unable to purchase school dinners because funds are not available. We will always ensure that a child eats - and are able to recoup funds the following day - however this slows service times considerably. By being organised, you can help to make the dining experience as enjoyable as possible for children. Remember, it can take up to 24 hours for funds to be available to your child after you have charged the online account.

Quick guides

For those parents and carers needing a quick reminder about how best to support their child in school, please revisit our parent guides here.

Mock examinations and other important dates

Please do take the time to remind yourself of the important events taking place this half term. As always, good attendance to school is essential to maintaining the highest standards of learning and progress. Please do not book any holidays during term time. In particular, those learners in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 have upcoming mock examinations and non-examined assessments.
