School safety
From the Headteacher
You may be aware from recent media coverage that two Cardiff secondary schools were closed on Monday and Tuesday as a precautionary measure. I have today received a letter from the local authority confirming that the information which led to the precautionary closure of the schools is being investigated as malicious communications only.
South Wales Police has confirmed that there is no evidence to support any actual threat to the schools, which have since reopened. During this time, all other Cardiff schools, including St Teilo's, have continued to operate as usual with no concerns about site safety.
I am now aware that a very small number of parents are choosing to keep their children at home. In my conversations, it would appear that rumours on social media are the cause of their worry. Please be reassured that, should site safety at St Teilo's ever be compromised, you will hear directly from me.
A Headteacher's primary duty is to lead a safe school and it is a responsibility I take very seriously.
Following my communication to you in February about a social media trend inciting violence in young people, I would again urge parents and carers not to rely on social media as a source of information about schools. Factual information concerning St Teilo's will always be published on our website and sent directly to you within appropriate timescales.
As ever,
Canon I Loynd, Headteacher
