Social Media
From the Headteacher
I have been made aware of a number of social media groups involving Year 9 students which cause me worry. These groups contain hate speech and threatening and bullying behaviour which is unacceptable and dangerous. These concerns have been shared with police.
It is of utmost importance that parents and carers manage and monitor their child's access to social media. Please take time now to sit with your child and examine the contents of their devices. Large group chats should be exited, inappropriate behaviour reported to platforms, and action taken to ensure your child's safety.
I need to inform you that the school will not tolerate behaviour which falls short of our expectations. I will take a firm line on matters arising in school which have been caused on social media during evenings and weekends.
Please also ensure that your child does not take devices into their bedroom after bedtime. It is never acceptable for your child to have unfettered access to social media and it is my expectation that parents and carers restrict the use of devices.
Children cannot protect themselves; everybody needs to help keep them safe.
I wish to remind you that phones are not permitted in school. Please ensure that your child is aware of the importance of adhering to this 'non-negotiable' and provide your full support to enforcing school rules.
