Letter from the Headteacher (2024-25) 6
To see with other eyes
The end of the academic year is fast approaching! Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 have been exemplary during the examination period and I have every confidence that they will reap the rewards of their efforts in August. Years 7, 8 and 9, too, have made very good progress in their learning. The year to date has been incredibly successful, with notable regional and national achievements in debating, chess, football, gymnastics and basketball, to name a few. We are so proud of every young person in #TeamTeilo.
Following a visit in March to schools in the State of Pennsylvania, St Teilo's last week hosted guests on their return visit. These visits represent the initial steps in our school's first transatlantic partnership. Next, we will seek to connect young people digitally to find a shared voice on matters most important to children today. To be taken out of our local context is a powerful way of broadening our understanding and appreciation as global citizens. It allows, as C S Lewis put it, to 'see with other eyes'. And that is, after all, what we mean by education.
We want to see with other eyes, to imagine with other imaginations, to feel with other hearts, as well as with our own.
Hot weather
We anticipate that the temperature tomorrow will rise to 30 degrees outside, feeling like 33 degrees. Inside the building may feel hotter than this again. Whilst there is much we can do to mitigate warm weather, it will be an uncomfortable day. Please do encourage your child to wear cool school uniform (such as school t-shirt, school shorts or school skort), wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water.
You can remind yourself of the school's approach to adverse weather here.
Sports Festival
The annual school Sports Festival is scheduled for Friday 4 July 2025, weather permitting.
Children should attend school in appropriate uniform on this day (school shorts, skort and t-shirts) and not in other sports clothing. We encourage every young person to bring a refillable bottle of drinking water and carry sunscreen in their bag to top-up during the day.
If your child is participating in the tough mudder, they will need spare 'rough' clothes and a towel!
For the purposes of safety and space, we do not invite parents or carers to join us during the Sports Festival.
Creative Exhibition
Parents and carers are invited to the school's creative exhibition on Tuesday 15 July 2025 between 3.30pm and 5.30pm. All are welcome but if your child has worked displayed they will have been provided with a special invitation.
Last day of term
Our last day is Friday 18 July 2025, finishing at 3.00pm as usual. Lessons continue to run until this day, so sustained good attendance is strongly encouraged. We will suspend the very final lesson of the year for From Groups to come together.
