Year 11 - Prepare for success

Introduction

We are now in the final approach to public examinations. Year 11 must be in the habit of preparing through structured revision, completing 'little and often'. Most importantly, a last minute rush should be avoided as this will be the source of worry and stress.

How well is my child doing?

Parents and carers received a written report on 20 January 2025 setting out strengths and areas for development in every subject. Also provided were predicted grade bands, giving a lower and upper estimate for attainment. The opportunity to explore the report in more detail with teachers was provided during the Progress Evening on 4 February 2025. Taken together, parents and carers should have a sense for where a child's efforts would be best placed.

How to revise - in person.

A revision plan is essential. You can find useful revision tips here to assist in your child's planning. A good routine at home will make all the difference and help to prevent the necessity for a final sprint. There is also structured after-school revision, led by teachers from 3.15-4.15pm, for all Year 11 learners:

  • Mondays - Science
  • Tuesdays - Mathematics
  • Wednesdays - Digital Technology, Design Technology, Music, Drama, Health and Social Care
  • Thursdays - Geography, Business, Art, Health and Social Care

A revision café runs every Thursday after school also, for general, supervised revision.

How to revise - online.

Every child in Year 11 has a subscription to SAM Learning, our online revision partner. Daily use - with each activity lasting approximately 10 minutes - can really help to support examination preparation and grow confidence. Form Tutors will help to monitor your child's use of this digital platform and encourage as much revision as possible. We have a weekly leader board with prizes for the best uptake - so there can be some levity also!

Teachers have set weekly tasks for every subject to help structure revision. However, children are free to access any other topics and practise at any time using the simple navigation function.

Study skills

A programme of coaching has begun during worship to help children learn how to revise. Techniques are being taught and practised, meaning that the task of revision becomes less daunting.

Grade boosters

There are a number of children in Year 11 who are underperforming in one or more curriculum areas. We are engaging groups of learners in the study of additional vocational qualifications to boost their overall grade profile. This will be particularly helpful for those wishing to go to a college of further education, for example. Grade boosting qualifications will be offered by invitation based on performance data.
