Year 7 visit to Llandaff Cathedral

Year 7 will visit Llandaff Cathedral, the mother church of the diocese of Llandaff, on Monday 4 December 2023. Wherever young people are in their faith journey, all will be welcomed to this ancient and beautiful place.

Together, we will celebrate the Holy Eucharist. Music will be offered by the choir, our student serving team will lead the proceedings and our school priests, The Revd G Rayner-Williams and The Revd R Hill, will preside. The preacher will be our headteacher, Canon I Loynd.

Llandaff Cathedral stands on one of the oldest Christian sites in Britain. In the sixth century, St Dyfrig founded a community close to the ford where the Roman road crossed the river Taff. He was succeeded by St Teilo and then Teilo's nephew, St Euddogwy. These three Celtic Saints remain patron saints of the present Cathedral and are represented by the three mitres in the Cathedral badge (just as in the badges of the diocese and our school).

Year 7 will be able to soak in the glory of the Rossetti Triptych, the Majestas, the Bishop Marshall Panel, the chapels and the monuments of the 13th to 16th centuries. In the words of the Dean of Llandaff, The Very Rev’d Richard Peers, “We are your cathedral and whoever you are you will find a welcome and a home here.”

Transport will be provided to and from school and excellent uniform and behaviour is expected for all.

We are your cathedral and whoever you are you will find a welcome and a home here.
