Year 11 - Prepare for success

Introduction

We are now in the final approach to public examinations and Year 11 are settling into their routine of structured revision. We remain eager to prevent a last minute rush - which can cause worry and stress - continuing to promote 'little and daily'.

How to revise - in person

A revision plan is essential. You can find useful revision tips here to assist in your child's planning. A good routine at home will make all the difference and help to prevent the necessity for a final sprint. There is also structured after-school revision, led by teachers from 3.15-4.15pm. Your child will need to speak with their teacher for details specific to them.

How to revise - online

Past examination papers, in hard copy, are likely the most valuable source for revision. However, your child may wish to supplement these with online learning, found here. In particular, the videos provided by Oak National Academy and Carlam Cymru can be helpful.

Study skills

Year 11 received a programme of coaching earlier in the Spring Term - these are the study skills we promote for good revision. Next week, a focus on worship will shift to managing the pressure of examinations, and teaching good self-care skills.

Grade boosters

Each year, we provide a targeted 'grade booster' programme for those in Year 11 whose grades are not quite as high as we might hope. For those wishing to go to a college of further education, in particular, these additional vocational certificates can help. Grade boosting is offered by invitation only, based on predicted outcomes.

End of year celebrations and prom

A reminder that the deadline for payments for prom is 1 May 2026. The event itself takes place on 18 June 2026 from 7.30pm at Cardiff City Stadium. Attendance is a privilege - not a right - and a reminder of expectations can be found here.

We do not announce the end of year celebrations, as we do not wish to disincentivise daily attendance to school. Study leave does not commence until later in the year, and almost certainly after the May half term break. For now, Year 11 must continue to attend school on time and every day - and we look forward to sharing memories and having fun later in the term.
